DESIGN PROCESS
As an RPG player myself, I am quite familiar with the aspects and aesthetics of this genre. But to make a typical action RPG would be too much of a bore, so I tried to add a little twist to the core concept of my game.
01
Concept & Research
-
Design a theme/world settings.
-
Research the aesthetic of designed theme (Monsters, culinary).
02
Design
-
Core mechanics. How does the cooking work? How do you gather ingredients?
-
World design. How many areas? What is inside them?
03
Paper Prototype
-
Draw a paper prototype of concept art feel/play, key feature screens.
-
Make a survey for feedback on the paper prototype.
-
Show the prototype to testers and let them do the survey.
04
Digital Prototype
-
Make a digital prototype with the feedback from the paper prototype.
05
Testing
-
List the data I want to get from playtest for further improvement.
-
Playtest with testers, record their gameplay and feedback for the wanted playtest data.
-
Analyze the test data and problem of the current game's version.
06
Improvement
-
Design a solution to solve the problem / mechanics or features to improve the game from the last playtest result.
-
Use the new version to repeat the testing process.
-
Repeat these 2 processes until the game is ready to finalize.
